The Tipping Point
We would all like to figure out how to initiate that point in time where all the stars and moon align and everything comes together that would ensure our success. “The Tipping Point” is some unexplainable “thing” that brings one success that you cannot plan, control or predict. You can’t plan for this or make this happen on your own. The Tipping Point has a force of its own!! Companies such as Harley Davidson, Hushpuppies Shoes and Puma all have been a part of The Tipping Point.
As another example of unexplainable success, I would submit to you a great example of The Tipping Point in the music industry. Unless you’re around kids from the age of 12 to 25 you probably have never heard the song “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen. The song is simple; the lyrics are about love at first sight, but the beat and the harmony are great. So why is everyone jumping on the “lip-sync” wagon to sing this song and post it on YouTube? Because it’s gone viral! Carly Rae Jepsen’s life has changed and she had very little to do with it, other than doing what she loves to do, sing.
So, what makes this song the huge success that it is? This song is okay at best; it’s a fun tune that will have you singing along once you hear it. What started as having a little fun, Justin Bieber and some friends recorded a lip-sync video to this song- posted it on YouTube (here’s The Tipping Point!!) and with that post, it has turned Carly Rae Jepsen into an overnight instant success.
Do a YouTube search on this song and you’ll find lip-sync videos of several college sports teams, along with Donald Trump, the Miss America beauty pageant contestants, President Obama, Katy Perry, and, by the way, the New York Mets’ infielder Justin Turner has the song playing on the PA system as he comes up to bat during the game. The NBC morning show from New York had a 7-minute segment which featured a lip-sync-off between The Harvard University boy’s baseball team (yes, I said Harvard) and the SMU women’s rowers! I would give the edge to the women’s rowers myself!
Under the category of I’d rather be lucky than good, consider The Tipping Point as a way to do the best you can do, and hope lady luck comes along turns you into a success. You, too, just might find that The Tipping Point will catapult you into success!
“So Call Me Maybe!!”
