“It Is What It Is”
It seems that every now and then a new business phrase comes into vogue. I mean come on, we’re all Thinking outside the Box, Circling Back in order to Touch Base and Follow up, so we can Shift the Paradigm and Give 110% and, of course, so we can Leverage our position. If that didn’t drive you crazy with empty phrases, there’s a new phrase I’ve heard a lot over the past couple months, that’s quite frankly starting to wear me out like all the others. Now it seems everyone is starting to use it, and it’s slowly becoming another overused business cliché.
With the pandemic, the new phrase “Pivoting” seems to be used a lot in business conversations. With the recent shutdown, companies need to explore new ways to grow the business. The market is changing and evolving, so companies need to find new ways of changing, oh sorry, Pivoting, its management style.
Many, many, many years ago in school I was a point guard, so I have a picture of what pivoting is. So, I know how useful it can be in a business conversation. All I’m asking is for us to tap the brakes on over using the new-found phrase. I just hope it doesn’t turn into yet another overused phrase that becomes meaningless. Then we’ll find ourselves pivoting to look for a new one … sorry, I had to do it.
As always…
My two cents.
