Scottie Scheffler Wins the Masters
No, I’m not talking about Tiger Woods. Yes, Tiger played at this year’s Masters Tournament, 14 months after a car accident that nearly required amputation of his right leg. However, don’t let the Tiger story completely bury the #1 story at the Masters.
Pro golfer Scottie Scheffler is now ranked #1 in the golf world this week. Scottie explains why he plays golf and how he keeps his composure under pressure: “I don’t place my value in golf.”
Even with that, a couple of weeks ago he won the golf tournament every professional golfer wants to win, The Masters. How did he win it?
It was his faith … Oh, and his wife played a major role in him winning. The morning before the final round, just before breakfast, he had a breakdown. One that I’m sure most of us have had. He was questioning himself, asking “Am I ready? Is this really happening? Am I good enough?” At one time or another, we’ve all had those thoughts.
That’s when his wife chimed in with the question. A question so profound, it brought a tear to my eyes. She said, “Who are you to question God’s will? If He puts you in that position, and He’s given you this talent, you better know you’re ready for whatever his plans are for you.”
How true is that! Too often we get in our head, and in our own way to succeed. We think we know what’s best, and we think we know what we’re capable of. But that’s not God’s way, his timing is perfect. The problem becomes His timing is not always our timing. My priest once told me, “He doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called.”
Scottie adds, “You’ve really got to look at the motivation for why I play. For me, I have a relationship with Jesus Christ. That’s why I play golf. I’m out here to compete because that’s where He wants me. He’s in control of what happens in the end. So just really staying the course and staying faithful and letting Him be the guidance for me versus anything that I do.”
That’s what I call a perspective we should all live by. Be called!
My 2 cents …
